The Centrality of a Translator’s Culture: Fernando de Rojas’s Celestina and the Creation of Style in Translation

Peter Bush now lives and works as a literary translator in Barcelona. He was formerly Professor of Literary Translation and Director of the British Centre for Literary Translation at the University of East Anglia, UK. Recent translations include Leonardo Padura’s Havana Fever and Najat El Hachmi’s The Last Patriarch. His translations of Juan Goytisolo’s Níjar Country and Exiled from Almost Everywhere and Teresa Solana’s A Shortcut to Paradise will be out in 2111. Current projects are Ramón Valle-Inclán’s Tirano Banderas, Josep Pla’s The Gray Notebook and Alain Badiou’s In Praise of Love.
