Call for Papers: Modern Critical Approaches to Children's Literature Conference

The Seventh Biennial Conference on Modern Critical Approaches to Children's Literature will be held March 29-31, 2007, in Nashville, Tennessee. The keynote speaker is U.C. Knoepflmacher, author of many books and articles including Ventures into Childland: Victorians, Fairy Tales, and Femininity (1998) and co-editor, with Nina Auerbach, of Forbidden Journeys: Fairy Tales and Fantasies by Victorian Women Writers (1992). His recent article "Hardy's Subterranean Child" is included in a collection of essays entitled Thomas Hardy Reappraised (University of Toronto Press, 2006). Dr. Knoepflmacher is currently working on a memoir about his Jewish childhood in the Bolivian Andes.

The conference chairs invite abstracts (around 500 words) for 20-minute papers treating scholarly, critical, or theoretical (rather than pedagogical) concerns in children's literature. Submit proposals via the conference website at http://www.mtsu.edu/~english2/conferencesjournals.htm. Check this site for submission guidelines and for more information about the conference, or contact one of the conference chairs: Martha Hixon (mhixon@mtsu.edu / 615-898-2599), Jenny Marchant (marchant@mtsu.edu / 615-898-2721), and Ellen Donovan (edonovan@mtsu.edu / 615-898-2664). The deadline for submissions is Sept. 30, 2006. Panel proposals are welcome.
